Celtic are stepping up their efforts to sign Lorient forward Mohamed Bamba, according to reports in France.
The Hoops have reportedly submitted a loan offer with an option to make the deal permanent after the season, as they look to secure their first January signing under Martin O’Neill.
Lorient are claimed to be considering the proposal amid Bamba’s struggles for playing time this season, with the Ivorian managing just one goal in seven starts in Ligue 1.
Right-back Julian Araujo remains Celtic’s only signing this month, while Odin Holm and Stephen Welsh have returned to the club from their respective loan spells.
Celtic Table Mohamed Bamba Offer
According to French publication Sport, Celtic are looking to secure Bamba on loan this month amid his limited involvement at Lorient in recent weeks.
Since the start of November, the 24-year-old forward has started just once for the Ligue 1 club across all competitions and was left out of the squad for Lorient’s Coupe de France victory over Hauts Lyonnais.
Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni admitted Bamba was sanctioned for a ‘lack of discipline’, but he returned to the squad last weekend, coming off the bench in the 3-1 win over Monaco.
Bamba joined Lorient from Austrian side Wolsberger AC for €5m (£4.3m) in January 2024 and registered 11 goal contributions in 16 league games during his first six months at the club.
The striker’s form has dipped since the start of the 2024/25 season, with Bamba managing just three goals in 34 league appearances for Lorient, who secured promotion to Ligue 1 last season.
Celtic Working on Several January Deals
Celtic appear to be working on several January deals at the moment, with the Scottish giants also in discussions to sign Irish rising star Michael Noonan.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the Hoops have tabled a bid for the 17-year-old striker and are rivalling Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for his signature.
The German club reportedly want to complete an agreement for Noonan ‘as soon as possible’ and are in advanced talks over the highly rated forward.
Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is another option on Celtic’s shortlist and is available to leave permanently after his loan spell at Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk was cut short.
