Aaron Anselmino looked as though he would become a key player for Borussia Dortmund this season following his arrival from Chelsea.

Dortmund signed Anselmino on loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, and he was handed a start in the German club’s second Bundesliga game of the campaign.

However, the defender has not appeared since then because of an injury, which has likely disappointed Dortmund supporters.

Dortmund fans were taking a liking to Anselmino, giving him a standing ovation on his debut against Union Berlin.

Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl was delighted with the acquisition of Anselmino over the summer.

He will want to see him back on the pitch soon, but that could be a problem because of the centre-half’s ongoing injury issue.

In fact, according to Ruhr Nachrichten, it “worries” Dortmund, who have witnessed Anselmino complain about feeling discomfort in training on multiple occasions.

Chelsea also have their own injury problems in central defence right now. Wesley Fofana missed their 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend after suffering from concussion, while Tosin Adarabioyo was also absent.

Enzo Maresca revealed in his pre-match press conference that Adarabioyo is unlikely to return until after the international break.

It is a shame that Anselmino has not had the opportunity to build on his excellent debut against Union Berlin.

He helped Niko Kovac’s side to keep a clean sheet that day while making five clearances. Only three Dortmund players managed to make more than the Argentine, according to Sofascore.

Dortmund signed both Anselmino and Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, and the latter has also had his own injury problems in recent seasons.

However, Chukwuemeka has been able to remain fit in the early stage of the campaign, helping Dortmund to keep up with Bayern in the Bundesliga title race. Kovac’s men currently sit just two points behind the current champions.
