FC Barcelona have firmly denied any plans to part ways with goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen in the upcoming January transfer window, emphasising that the German international remains a key part of the club’s present and future.

Marc-André ter Stegen has been a crucial figure at FC Barcelona for nearly a decade, consistently serving as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and a key leader in the dressing room.

With Marc-Andre ter Stegen sidelined and rumours swirling about his future, the arrival of Joan Garcia raised eyebrows, not least because he joined from city rivals Espanyol.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s X post on Tuesday, Barcelona’s Director Deco said: “There’s no January plan around Ter Stegen exit. If he was fit, he’d probably be playing — he’s our captain”, Deco told Mundov Deportivo.

“Joan García was about the present and the future. Signing him wasn’t ‘against’ Ter Stegen; it was smart planning.”

Ter Stegen has been one of the most consistent performers for FC Barcelona over the past decade. Known for his reflexes, composure with the ball at his feet, and leadership qualities, he quickly established himself as a vital part of Barcelona’s post-Valdés era.
