Manchester City have reportedly identified Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic as a potential transfer target.

 

Pep Guardiola and new sporting director Hugo Viana have overseen a wide-ranging squad overhaul during the two 2025 windows.

 

As a result, the average age of City’s squad has been drastically reduced, the hope being that it will eventually lead to success on the pitch after a trophyless campaign in 2024-25.

 

Nevertheless, with the futures of some squad members being up in the air, there may be room for further fresh additions in 2026.

 

According to Fichajes, City officials have already set their sights on trying to negotiate a deal for Pavlovic, who has established himself as an increasingly-dependent member of Vincent Kompany‘s squad.

In Bundesliga and Champions League fixtures during 2025-26, the 21-year-old has been provided with four starts and two substitute appearances.

 

The Germany international featured for 64 minutes when Bayern beat Chelsea last month, while his one goal of the season came versus Hamburger.

 

In total, the academy graduate has made 62 outings for Bayern, contributing four goals and three assists, and it appears that he has impressed onlookers at the Etihad Stadium.

 

City are allegedly prepared to present a proposal worth €50m (£43.49m) during the winter transfer window in a bid to tempt Bayern into a sale.

 

Bayern remain in a strong position to reject any interest, however, with Pavlovic holding a contract until 2029.

 

 

Can Bayern afford to reject Pavlovic interest?

 

With Pavlovic a homegrown talent, there are obvious benefits to cashing in on him should a substantial offer be presented over the coming years.

 

On the flip side, however, Pavlovic is being touted as a first-team star for years to come and Kompany would undoubtedly prefer to keep him.

 

Bayern are also in a position where they do not need to accept any offers, a consequence of approximately breaking even during the summer market.

 

While the outlay on Harry Kane two years ago is still on their books, Bayern are well inside the required margins, while there is the potential for Tottenham Hotspur to take up a £27m option on Joao Palhinha next year.
