Celtic have made an offer for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi with Crystal Palace currently weighing up two offers for their winger, according to Sky Sports.
The Bhoys are on the verge of completing the signing of Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, with the Scottish giants ready to pay the striker £34,000-a-week for the remainder of the season ahead of deciding whether they activate a £7m buy option.
Cvancara will join Julian Araujo as the second arrival at Parkhead, but Celtic are in the market for more signings ahead of the February 2 deadline with Martin O’Neill’s attack still a big priority.
Crystal Palace Want Permanent Rak-Sakyi Deal
According to Sky Sports, Palace are weighing up two proposals they have received for Rak-Sakyi in this transfer window.
One of those is from Celtic, with the other coming from Championship side Stoke City after the 23-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at Turkish club Caykur Rizespor.
Palace’s preference this month is for Rak-Sakyi to either leave on a permanent deal, or a loan with achievable outcomes that will trigger an obligation to buy in the summer.
As well as the offers from Celtic and Stoke, a number of other clubs have also made enquiries for the ‘scary’ winger, who almost moved to Parkhead last summer before the move fell through on deadline day.
Swansea City came close to an agreement earlier this month, with Championship automatic promotion hopefuls Coventry City and Ipswich Town also credited with an interest.
Celtic Eyeing Another Striker After Cvancara
Despite Cvancara’s 6 ft 2 frame, O’Neill claimed in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening that the Czechia striker is more of a quick and agile striker, rather than a target man.
Perhaps that was a hint that they could still look to bring in another centre-forward who fits that profile better, and the links continue with David Datro Fofana of Chelsea, as well as Sparta Rotterdam’s Tobias Lauritsen.
Celtic are eyeing a move for the latter according to reports, with the 6 ft 5 Norwegian much more of a target man than Cvancara.
The 28-year-old is in good form too, with 11 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for Sparta this term.
Which Other Positions Could Celtic Strengthen?
As well as on the wing and strikers, there are other positions Celtic want to bolster as time begins to run out to do business in this window.
Central midfield is one area where links are emerging, with experienced Red Bull Leipzig star Xaver Schlager linked with a move to Parkhead in recent days.
The 49-cap Austria international is in demand with his contract at the Red Bull Arena due to expire at the end of the season, with the Bhoys facing competition from top Serie A clubs for the 28-year-old’s signature.
An interesting twist to the story is that Leipzig are keen on Celtic star Arne Engels, although it would surely take a significant fee to take the £11m Belgian away from Scotland.
