Eddie Howe could make as many as four changes for Newcastle United’s Champions League game against Union Saint-Gilloise on Wednesday.

The Magpies are looking for their first Champions League win of the season, having lost to Barcelona in their competition opener.

This represents a difficult away day, with Union Saint-Gilloise in excellent form. They also won their first Champions League game, beating PSV Eindhoven on the road.

On the back of a hugely physical game against Arsenal, Eddie Howe will likely rotate his squad again. With that in mind, this is Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI to face Union Saint-Gilloise.

Fabian Schar and Lewis Hall return for Newcastle United

Fabian Schar has missed Newcastle’s last three games due to concussion. However, he is set to return for the game in Brussels.

Schar has been spotted in Newcastle training, and should regain his place in the starting XI as Howe looks to rotate.

He could be reunited at centre-back with Dan Burn, which would result in Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman dropping to the bench. That would be harsh given how well they did against Arsenal, but Howe knows he needs to keep his team fresh.

Lewis Hall will also return. The £28million man missed the defeat to Arsenal with fatigue, but will likely be restored at left-back. Hall has been pictured travelling to Belgium alongside Schar, in what is a welcome boost for Eddie Howe.

On the right of defence, Kieran Trippier is expected to start on the back of Tino Livramento’s injury.

No changes in midfield for Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe would love to rotate his midfield against Union Saint-Gilloise, but that is difficult to do without Jacob Ramsey.

Joe Willock appears to be out of favour, while Lewis Miley feels more suited to the upcoming Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.

Therefore, Howe will probably stick with his tried and tested trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton. The former will be eager to improve, having endured a rare, quiet 90 minutes on Sunday versus Arsenal.

One change in attack for Champions League trip

Newcastle United’s attack is yet to click into gear. Nick Woltemade is scoring goals, but his teammates definitely need to supply him with more chances.

That honour should go to Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga on Wednesday night, with Jacob Murphy dropping to the bench.

The 30-year-old was largely anonymous against Arsenal, while he has been nursing an Achilles problem.

That should give Elanga an opportunity, having impressed in the last Champions League game against Barcelona.
