US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said that President Donald Trump is actively working towards ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, drawing on his recent success in brokering peace in Gaza, Radio Svoboda reported on October 10.
Speaking in Brussels, Whitaker expressed hope that a resolution to the war in Ukraine could follow the same path, noting that Israel had confirmed a ceasefire in Gaza.
Whitaker also reiterated the critical role Europe plays in sustaining Russia’s finances, particularly through continued purchases of Russian natural gas and oil, Radio Svoboda reported.

He stressed the need for European nations to stop importing these energy resources, which indirectly fuel Russia’s aggression.
As for the peace process, Whitaker stated that President Trump would continue creating conditions and leverage to bring Russia to the negotiation table.
However, if Putin remains unwilling to engage in meaningful peace talks, Trump could intensify pressure on Russia with tools such as sanctions, oil and gas restrictions, long-range strikes, and advanced weapon supplies to NATO allies and Ukraine, Whitaker told Radio Svoboda correspondent.
“Tomorrow, the US will make an important announcement regarding arms supplies to Ukraine,” Ambassador said, according to la Repubblica report on October 14.
“There are almost—I don’t want to say unlimited possibilities—but certainly there are many consequences for not reaching a peace agreement that could be used against the Russians,” he emphasized, adding that “some of the things I haven’t even mentioned, he is potentially considering doing.”
Tomorrow, on Wednesday, October 15, a Ramstein meeting and Ukraine-NATO Council meeting will take place. Defense ministers from a number of countries will participate in the event, the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance reported.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he plans to travel to Washington on October 17 for a meeting meeting with US President Donald Trump, framing the visit around boosting Ukraine’s air defenses and long-range strike capabilities.
