Florian Wirtz was one of the most expensive transfers of the summer transfer window when he joined Liverpool in a deal worth €125 million.
Wirtz joined the Premier League giants on the back of a stellar spell with Bayer Leverkusen, where he established himself as one of the world’s most talented young players.
However, the German has since endured a slow start to his Premier League career. Although he has been involved in almost every game, his performances have been far from impressive.
In ten matches across all competitions, Wirtz has mustered only one assist and is yet to score a single goal for his new club.
Xabi Alonso wants Real Madrid to keep an eye on Wirtz
In light of Wirtz’s recent struggles, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has asked the club to keep a close eye on his situation at Liverpool.
This is according to Defensa Central (h/t The Touchline), which suggests that the Spaniard could be interested in reuniting with the German international at Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso, after all, had played a key role behind Wirtz’s rapid rise to prominence at Leverkusen. Now, it appears the Spaniard is sensing an opportunity to snap him up from Liverpool.
The report adds that Wirtz is unhappy at Anfield after a nightmarish start to his life in England, which has added to Alonso’s desire to sign the German international.
However, it is unlikely Liverpool would want to lose another star player to Real Madrid, especially having lost Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer.
Not to mention, Real Madrid are also in contention to sign Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer at the end of the season, which would make Liverpool all the more defensive.
Even if the Reds do consider a sale, Wirtz is likely to cost a fortune, which, at the moment, may not appear viable for Real Madrid, considering they already have Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler competing for the attacking midfield position.
